Our History

Pearl Place Women’s Care grew out of Dr. Elizabeth Sanford’s original practice, Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates, which she purchased in 1986. Many of our long-time patients remember the office when it was simply Dr. Sanford, physician associate Kim Horvath, their nurse Marge Warner, and office manager Linda Morin. Over the years, other practitioners have joined the team, and the office moved to larger quarters in the Pearl Place building. Here, Dr. Sanford and the Pearl Place Midwives are able to provide the best in health care for women.

We’re all women here at Pearl Place, so we understand how very important it is that your personal health care be delivered with sensitivity and compassion. Your comfort is our goal, whether you are seeing us for concerns related to menopause, pregnancy, or adolescence. Help for Women with Heavy Periods

Dr. Sanford responds to a question about a new treatment for heavy periods in a recent Tacoma News Tribune article:

Q: I have trouble with heavy periods. It is affecting my life. I don ’t think it ’s bad enough to have a hysterectomy, but I need relief. Is there anything I can do?

A: Luckily there is a new alternative to hysterectomy, which recently came to our office. This alternative is called Her Option. Her Option is a safe and effective way to alleviate the troubles of heavy periods. Her Option is the only FDA approved in office procedure for heavy bleeding. Her Option uses cryoablation (cold temperatures) to reduce or eliminate the uterine lining. The procedure takes about 20-30 minutes and by the next day you are back to your everyday life.
